Rivers Attorney General Rejects Redeployment To Special Duties By Governor Fubara, Resigns

Rivers State Attorney General Zaccheaus Adangor has chosen to resign rather than accept his appointment as special duties commissioner.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof Zaccheaus Adangor has rejected a new appointment by the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and instead chose to resign.

Recall that Adangor, a loyalist of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike was among Fubara’s cabinet members that resigned their positions at the height of the political crisis between the governor and his immediate predecessor in the state.

After the peace meeting with President Bola Tinubu on the state crisis, Prof Adangor alongside other commissioners who left Fubara’s government returned back with assurance to work with the government to achieve the needed development in the state.

On Tuesday, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo announced a new office for Adangor, relieving him of the position of Commissioner for Justice and said he has been assigned to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

Also redeployed is the Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, who is to man the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, and with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Prof Adangor has rejected the new position assigned to him by the governor.

In a letter addressed to the SSG, Dr Danagogo dated Wednesday April 24, 2024, Adangor stated: “My attention has been drawn to your letter dated 23rd April, 2024 and widely circulated on social media whereby I was deployed to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

“Further to the referenced letter, I hereby give you notice of my rejection of the

said deployment and resignation from the Rivers State Executive Council with

effect from 24th day of April, 2024.

“I wish to state for the record, that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in

the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever.

“It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple.of weeks wilfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits instituted against the Honourable Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State.

“That having served the Government and good people of Rivers State dutifully as

member of the Rivers State Executive Council for the past five (5) years, it has

become imperative for me to quit the administration in order to preserve my

reputation”.

Adangor however, wished the administration of governor Fubara a success.

As at the time of filing this report, the former commissioner for finance, Kamalu has not reacted on the new position.
