
In security news, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu issued a report stating that the pupils and staff abducted from Saint Mary’s Private Catholic School in Niger State will soon be reunited with their families.
It comes as the Northern States Governors held a forum where they announced a new security trust fund under which the northern states will contribute a combined N1 Billion Naira every month to confront banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping in the region.
The Forum also highlighted illegal mining as a major factor contributing to the security crisis, accusing artisanal miners and their sponsors of funding terrorism.
In a similar vein, the Former Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabor alleged on live TV that some politicians are funding terrorism in Nigeria and that Christians are being targeted in parts of the country.
Also speaking on live TV, Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo condemned the fact that Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are both Muslims, reigniting one of the most contentious issues of the 2023 presidential election.
In another development, the Peoples Democratic Party responded to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s resignation from the party, stating that Adeleke remains the only cleared and screened aspirant ahead of the 2026 election.
It comes as Adeleke resigned from the party, citing the current crisis with national leadership.
The development comes after Adeleke’s third anniversary broadcast, in which he presented his administration’s key achievements including repaying inherited pensions, rehabilitating healthcare centres, and moving Osun State from 33rd to 7th place in national examination rankings.
