The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has warned Mothercat Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the dualisation of N5.4 billion Mashi-Daura township road project against substandard work.
Radda, who gave the warning Tuesday while flagging off the construction of the three-kilometer dual carriageway, urged the construction firm to execute the project in accordance with approved specifications.
He said: “I commend Mothercat Nigeria Limited and urged the company to maintain a higher standard of quality and complete this project within the agreed time frame. The people of Mashi deserve nothing less than excellence.”
He said the construction of the road will ease traffic, improve access to markets, reduce travel time, lower transportation costs and create more conducive environment for businesses to thrive in the town.
He described Mashi market as one of the “largest and busiest markets”, attracting traders, farmers, transporters and customers within and outside the shores of Katsina State.
He explained that the market serves as a major centre of exchange of agricultural commodities, livestock and other commodities, making it a vital driver of economic development of northern region.
“However, the growing volume of commercial activities has also increased traffic congestion, particularly among the important Katsina-Daura Corridor.
“This project is therefore not just about constructing a road, it is about strengthening commerce and supporting agriculture, creating employment opportunities and encouraging investment and improving the quality of life of our people”, Radda added.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Sani Magaji, said the three-kilometre dual carriageway would gulped N5.4 billion from the state government’s coffers.
He noted that the project involves the construction of three kilometres of roadway with solar-powered streetlights, reinforced drainage systems, pedestrian walkways and other road safety features that conform to approved engineering standards.
He added that the project underscored Governor Radda’s commitment to investing in strategic infrastructure that promotes economic development, improves mobility and enhances the quality of life of residents.
