PSC Extends Deadline For 50,000 Police Constable Recruitment By Two Weeks

Despite 400,000 applications, PSC to extend constable recruitment by two weeks; recruitment deadline moved to February 8 to ensure nationwide representation.

The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 police constables across the country.

The application deadline, initially scheduled for January 25, 2026, has now been moved to February 8, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC, Torty Njoku Kalu, confirmed the extension, noting that the recruitment portal—opened on December 15, 2025—will remain accessible to all eligible Nigerians until the new closing date.

According to the Commission, the decision followed the receipt of over 400,000 applications nationwide, as well as an internal review that revealed significant disparities in application numbers across states.

While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high levels of participation, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra registered comparatively low application figures.

The PSC and NPF explained that the extension was approved to promote equitable representation and ensure that no state is underrepresented in the ongoing intake of police constables.

“In light of this, all eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with low application rates, are strongly encouraged to submit their applications through the official recruitment portal before the new deadline,” the statement said.

The Commission also called on state governments, local government councils, socio-cultural organisations, religious bodies, community leaders and other stakeholders to mobilise and sensitise qualified youths within their jurisdictions to participate in the exercise.

The PSC and NPF reaffirmed their commitment to a fair, transparent and inclusive recruitment process, stressing that the extension is aimed at giving every qualified Nigerian an equal opportunity to serve in the Nigeria Police Force.
