Police review viral footage of a man in police attire accused of threatening passengers on a bus in Lagos.

The Nigeria Police Force says it is reviewing a viral video that shows a man in police attire driving a commercial bus and threatening passengers in Lagos.

The video, said to be recorded near Eko Bridge, shows the driver in a police T-shirt and a cap marked “NPF” arguing with passengers after stopping on the road. Passengers questioned his action and the situation became tense.

One passenger said, “You talk say you want to kill. You see wetin Nigeria police dey do. You dey follow full bus argue. You wan put us for water.” Some passengers then said they would record him. The man replied, “See my face.”

An account shared online said the driver stopped to buy fuel and asked passengers to get down without notice. The post said, “We were literally dropped in the middle of the road because the driver wanted to buy fuel… he became aggressive and started issuing threats, saying he would kill us and dump our bodies into the water near Eko Bridge.”

Police spokesperson Aliyu Giwa said the force is aware of the video and is checking the facts. He said, “Our attention has been drawn to a video circulating online concerning the alleged actions of an individual in Lagos.”

He added that the man’s identity is not yet clear. “Initial observations show the individual is not in a standard police uniform but is wearing items labeled ‘NPF/Police.’ His status as a serving officer remains unconfirmed.”

Giwa also addressed the conduct seen in the clip. He said, “Such behaviour is unprofessional, and any conduct that threatens or intimidates citizens is unacceptable.”

He urged the public to help with information, saying, “We encourage anyone with credible information to assist in identifying the individual.” The police say action will follow after they confirm the facts.
