The Kano State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a brutal attack on the residence of one Haruna Bashir at Dorayi Charanchi Quarters, which claimed the lives of a woman and her six children.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed that the victims were Fatima Abubakar, aged 35, and her six children, who were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants armed with dangerous weapons.
Kiyawa said the police received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on Saturday reporting that hoodlums had broken into the house and violently attacked the occupants.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately deployed a police team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, DCP Lawal Isah-Mani, to the scene.
According to the statement, the victims were evacuated and taken to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Kiyawa added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to lead a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police command expressed condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Charanchi, and the people of Kano State, assuring the public that efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
