The Kano State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt in Garun Mallam Town, Garun Mallam Local Government Area, and rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, who was abducted by suspected bandits on Friday night.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred on 29th August 2026 at about 11:30pm when armed men suspected to be bandits stormed Garun Mallam Town about 40 kilometers from Kano, and started shooting sporadically in the air to create panic.

The hoodlums, during the attack, abducted Alhaji Yusif Nadabo ‘m’, the traditional title holder of Sarkin Noman Kano, who is widely recognized as a key figure in the state’s agricultural sector. In the course of the raid, three residents were also shot and injured.

The injured victims were identified as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20. All of them are residents of Garun Mallam Town and were said to have been caught in the attack.

Upon receiving the distress report, the Command said “it immediately mobilized tactical and patrol teams, with reinforcement from neighboring Divisions, to the scene of the incident. The rapid deployment was aimed at tracking the attackers and securing the release of the abducted victim.”

“The Police, working in collaboration with members of the community, vigilantes, and the Neighborhood Watch Corps, gave the bandits a hot chase. Faced with the pressure, the attackers abandoned their victim and fled into the bush.” the statement said.

Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt and taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital alongside the three injured victims for medical attention. Hospital authorities confirmed they were receiving treatment and were in stable condition.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and the bravery of residents who assisted in the rescue operation. He said community cooperation was critical to the success recorded.

“To prevent a recurrence, the CP said the Command has emplaced confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam Town. A manhunt has also been launched to arrest the fleeing perpetrators as investigations into the incident continue.” Kiyaye added.

The Police Command urged residents to remain calm and continue to provide credible information that would aid in apprehending the culprits. It reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
