Police Ban Tyre Burning During Crossover Night Celebrations In Nasarawa

Nasarawa police warn violators will be arrested as command moves to protect infrastructure, public safety and the environment during New Year festivities.

The Nasarawa state command of the Nigeria Police Force say it has placed a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations across the 13 local government areas of the State.

Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the state commissioner of police, has consequently directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure strict enforcement of the ban, urging them to arrest and prosecute anyone found engaging in the prohibited act.

According to him, the ban has become important to safe guard critical government and private infrastructure from being damaged and defacement, prevent environmental pollution, and ensure the free flow of traffic and public safety during the festivities.

CPJauro-Mohammed, however, warned urged vulcanizers in the state to ensure that all used tyres are properly disposed of or taken away at the close of business each day to prevent unauthorized access by members of the public.

The police boss, therefore, appealed to parents and guardians to educate their wards against engaging in the burning of tyres or any related unlawful activities.

He reiterated the command’s unwavering committed to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free New Year celebration for all residents across the state.
