The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested three suspects and recovered a large cache of highly explosive materials during an intelligence-led operation in Daura Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, carried out on January 7, 2026, followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on heightened vigilance and intensified patrols, particularly along highways.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the arrest was made at Koza village, Daura LGA, during an intelligence-driven stop-and-search operation.

According to the statement, operatives intercepted a Golf motor vehicle driven by one Jamilu Musa, 40, and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of 6,975 pieces of detonators neatly concealed in the vehicle.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he received the explosives from one Najib, who is currently at large, and was conveying them from Kano State to Kwangolam in Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina State,” the police spokesman said.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Ibrahim Murtala, 22, and Sulaiman Muhammad, 35. A subsequent search, according to the police, resulted in the recovery of an additional 7,500 electric detonators and over 30 bags of gelatine explosives weighing about 2,273.65 kilograms.

Aliyu said all three suspects confessed to their involvement in the illegal possession and movement of the explosive materials.

He added that investigations are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects connected with the crime, including the alleged supplier, while the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Katsina State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety, and urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
