The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, over an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old minor, an act which resulted in her pregnancy.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred at Ilara-Mokin, in Ifedore Local Government Area of the State.
According to the police, the arrest, which followed a formal complaint lodged on January 4, 2026, underscores the Command’s renewed resolve to confront sexual and gender-based violence head-on, particularly crimes involving women and children.
According to the Police, the case was reported by one Adewale of Ilara-Mokin, who alleged that the suspect had been engaging in unlawful sexual activities with his sister’s daughter.
He noted that the disturbing act reportedly came to light after concerned family members began inquiries into the cause of the teenager’s pregnancy.
The PPRO said the suspect was promptly taken into custody following the report.
“Upon receipt of this disturbing report, the case was immediately referred to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the Command for discreet and thorough investigation,” the statement read.
DSP Jimoh noted that the suspect remains in custody and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
He added that the Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner CP Adebowale Lawal, has zero-tolerance stance on sexual offences, stressing that perpetrators would not be shielded under any guise.
“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, and to ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are made to face the full weight of the law without compromise,” the Police assured.
The statement further noted that the arrest aligns with the broader policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, whose reform-driven agenda places strong emphasis on gender-sensitive policing, accountability, and strategic responses to sexual and gender-based violence across the country.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains resolute in translating this vision into visible actions that build public trust and enhance community safety,” DSP Jimoh stated.
While commending members of the public for their “timely and courageous reporting,” the Police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to supply credible and actionable information to security agencies.
Members of the public were also encouraged to contact the Command through its official channels for inquiries or to report suspicious activities.
