Peter Obi Visits Kano, Consoles Traders Over Market Fire

Peter Obi visits Kano’s Singer Market, donates funds, consoles traders affected by devastating fire outbreak.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on Monday visited Singer Market in Kano to sympathise with traders affected by a recent fire incident that destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

During the visit, the former Anambra State governor expressed deep sympathy with the victims and pledged his support, describing the incident as a major loss not only to Kano State but to Nigeria at large.

“Let me start by saying my sincere sympathy to the leadership of this facility on what recently happened. We are here physically to see what happened at Singer Market and the large loss suffered by traders,” Obi said.

He noted that the market plays a significant role in employment generation, adding that many livelihoods were disrupted by the fire outbreak.

“This is a huge loss to Kano and Nigeria because many people are employed here. I left Lagos to come here personally to show my support to the victims,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the affected traders, Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association, Jamilu Muhammad Zakari, thanked Obi for the visit and his show of solidarity.

“We appreciate your concern and the fact that you travelled all the way from Lagos to sympathise with us. It was an unfortunate incident, and we are grateful for your support,” Zakari said.
Obi also donated an undisclosed sum of money to the market leadership to assist the affected traders.
