Despite the pressure mounted by the National Assembly, civil society groups and many well-meaning Nigerians on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, the president acted true to type on Monday by rejecting the bill.

The president has elected to deflect the blame for withholding his assent to the bill on others, citing the need for political parties to be allowed to freely exercise the choice of deciding the mode of primaries to adopt for the selection of candidates seeking elective office.

In so doing, Buhari threw away the baby with the bath water and possibly dashed all hopes for the conduct of transparent elections in 2023.

Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, joins  The Morning Show to give us his perspective on the underlying reasons for the rejection of the Electoral Bill, what can be done to salvage it in ample time before the forthcoming general election, and other issues of national importance.
