All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, has described the ongoing governorship election as peaceful in his area, expressing confidence in emerging victorious.
Oyebamiji spoke after casting his vote, saying voters had turned out in large numbers and the electoral process was proceeding peacefully.
He said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), voters and security personnel were present at the polling areas he visited.
“So far, my assessment is that everything is going on peacefully here,” he said.
Oyebamiji also acknowledged reports of attempts to cause trouble in some locations but said security personnel were responding to such situations.
“The security people are attending to where the reports are. So far, one or two places where they want to cause trouble, the police are in charge,” he said.
He appealed to voters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election and allow security personnel and electoral officials to carry out their duties.
“I want to appeal to the people that it is important that they need to conduct themselves, and they need to vote peacefully,” he said.
On reports that a person was arrested with firearms, Oyebamiji said security agencies should be allowed to handle the matter.
“I don’t have any reaction to that. I think the security officers at least will do their job,” he said.
The APC candidate also expressed confidence in his chances of winning the election.
“My expectation is that I am going to carry the day,” Oyebamiji said.
