Victor Osimhen is set for surgery after suffering a fractured arm during Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool FC in their UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield.
The Nigerian striker sustained the injury in the first half but continued playing in a bid to help his side avoid elimination. However, he was unable to return for the second half after the extent of the damage became apparent.
Galatasaray confirmed the injury in a statement after the match, saying: “After the match, a hospital examination, under the supervision of our medical team, confirmed a fracture of the right forearm, and a cast was applied.”
The club added that “A decision regarding a possible surgical procedure will be made in the coming days after further tests.”
Despite taking a 1-0 lead from the first leg, Galatasaray saw their advantage wiped out before halftime as Liverpool drew level on aggregate. The English side then surged ahead with three quick second half goals, with Mohamed Salah among the scorers, sealing a dominant comeback and a 4-1 aggregate victory.
The result sends Liverpool into the quarterfinals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.
Osimhen’s injury is a major setback for Galatasaray, casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of the season as the club continues its domestic title push. The Turkish side currently sit four points clear at the top of the league and are scheduled to face Trabzonspor away on Sunday.
Widely regarded as one of football’s brightest attacking talents, Osimhen’s potential absence could significantly impact both club ambitions and his immediate playing future.
