Oshiomhole Hails Trump’s Recognition Of First Lady Tinubu As Diplomatic Win For Nigeria

Oshiomhole says Trump’s recognition of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu reflects Nigeria’s global respect and religious harmony.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has congratulated Bola Tinubu over the public recognition accorded his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, by United States President Donald Trump, describing it as a diplomatic win for Nigeria.

Oshiomhole, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and ex-Governor of Edo State, spoke with journalists after visiting President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.

He said his visit was to extend New Year greetings to the President and to celebrate what he described as Trump’s glowing tribute to the First Lady during a public event.

According to Oshiomhole, Trump—known for his blunt style—described Mrs Tinubu as “a very respectable woman, a very responsible woman, and a pastor of the largest church in Nigeria,” before inviting her to stand for recognition.

“I came to greet Mr President and wish him a happy New Year, but also to celebrate what we saw yesterday when the most powerful man in the world acknowledged the First Lady of Nigeria and invited her to stand up for recognition,” he said.

The Edo North senator said the moment was a source of national pride, noting the applause it generated and adding that the reaction would have been different if the situation were reversed.
He described the gesture as a symbol of Nigeria’s religious harmony, stressing that it reflected positively on President Tinubu’s leadership.

“Trump understands that Nigeria’s President is a Muslim, but he celebrates the fact that he has a Christian wife who is also a pastor. That shows there can be no tension between the Quran and the Bible. That, for me, is a merit to all Nigerians,” Oshiomhole said.

He urged Nigerians to remain united despite national challenges, saying the country’s problems were fixable and already being addressed.
