EXCERPT: OpenAI is seeking at least $30bn in new funding as investors discuss a valuation of about $1.4tn.

OpenAI is seeking to raise at least $30 billion in a new funding round that could value the artificial intelligence company at about $1.4 trillion, Bloomberg News has reported.

The fundraising talks are still at an early stage and the terms could change, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg.

The proposed funding round is expected to provide capital for OpenAI as an alternative to an initial public offering, with investor demand driving discussions, the report said.

OpenAI did not immediately responded to request for comment.

The company previously secured a funding round in March with $122 billion in committed capital, giving it a valuation of $852 billion.

OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman said earlier this month that the company would not go public in 2026, citing safety concerns linked to artificial intelligence.

The latest funding talks come as OpenAI’s revenue continues to grow. As reported earlier on Tuesday that the company’s annualised revenue run rate is nearing $70 billion, after rising by more than 70% since the beginning of the third quarter.
