Onyema: Air Peace To Commence London Flights From Ogun Airport This Summer

Air Peace plans London flights from Ogun’s Gateway Airport, boosting connectivity and positioning the facility as a major aviation hub.

The Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has announced plans to commence international flight operations from the Gateway International Airport to London.

According to Onyema, the airline will begin flights to both London Gatwick and Heathrow airports this summer, marking a major milestone for Ogun State’s aviation sector.

The announcement was made after an inspection of the airport alongside Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, following the facility’s commissioning by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Onyema described the airport as a world-class facility, noting that its infrastructure meets global standards. He highlighted its 4-kilometre runway, capable of accommodating large aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380, adding that Air Peace plans to deploy its Boeing 777 fleet for the London route.

He also disclosed that the airline has received approval from the Minister of Aviation to proceed with the operations, describing the airport as a national asset rather than a state project.

Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, revealed plans to further expand the airport’s ecosystem with an international conference centre and a 550-room five-star hotel, aimed at positioning the state as a hub for global business and tourism.

He added that cargo operations have already commenced, with expectations of increased activity, including international cargo services and additional airline operations in the near future.

The development signals a major step toward transforming Gateway International Airport into a key aviation hub in Nigeria, complementing existing airports in Lagos and Abuja.
