One Dead As Bus Collides With Train In Russia’s Leningrad Region

A collision between a bus and a train in Russia’s Leningrad region left one person dead, local authorities confirmed.

One person was killed and 11 others injured when a bus collided with a freight train in Russia’s Leningrad region, local railway authorities said on Monday.

According to the regional railway administration, the driver of the bus drove onto the level crossing in front of an oncoming freight train. “The train driver applied emergency braking, but the distance was too short to prevent a collision,” officials stated on the Telegram messaging app.

The administration said the vehicle involved was a regular service bus, though Russia’s state news agency RIA, citing the local prosecutor’s office, reported that it was a tourist bus.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
