The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Nasarawa state Command, has apprehended members of a alleged motorcycle theft and documentation syndicate operating in Lafia, the state capital.
The command’s Public Relations and Strategic Communications Officer, PRO, SC Jerry Victor, disclosed in a statement signed by him in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
According to him, the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence and sustained operational efforts by the Command,
Those suspects arrested, include Bello Usman, 21; Ahmad Haruna Wakili, 29, also known as “Babson,” and identified as the alleged ring leader; Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, 22; and Abass Ibrahim, who is suspected to specialise in the production and issuance of fake receipts.
He, however, explained that preliminary investigation indicates that the syndicate was suspected to be involved in activities relating to motorcycle theft, alteration of motorcycle identities and the production of fraudulent ownership documents.
His words, “The Command is also investigating the possible involvement of the suspects in other related criminal activities.”
He, however, called on the members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, particularly those involving motorcycle theft, fraudulent documentation and other forms of criminality, to the appropriate security agencies.
The statement further urged members of the public who may have lost motorcycles, number plates, identity documents or other items corresponding with those recovered to visit the NSCDC Nasarawa state command headquarters, Lafia, with valid proof of ownership or other relevant documentation.
Items recovered during the operation to includes One Jincheng motorcycle, popularly known as “Rubber Rubber”; One big iron cutter; nine motorcycle number plates, including: KRU 654QS-Nasarawa;
Others are-One handcuff; One complete NYSC uniform; five one laptop hard drive, three knives; five scissors; rwo flash drives and ropes of different sizes.
Also as exibits are several motorcycle keys – three motorcycle union identity cards and one Federal University student identity card; five ATM cards; two wraps of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp; six sim cards; pliers, screwdrivers, spanners and other tools suspected to be used in their operations.
