Nine Miners have been killed while working in a mining site in Nahuta Village, Gwana District in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, who confirmed the incident, said that on Sunday, 27th September, 2026, one Kasim Abdulsalam, the Purchase Manager of Zurfi Mining Company, Nahuta Village, Gwana District, Alkaleri LGA, reported that on 25th September, 2026 at about 7.45pm, their contract miners were working at Pit Three (3) when water over-flooded the pit, following a heavy rainfall around 3.00pm.
Habib, a Superintendent of Police, said that in the process, some miners were rescued while one Abner ‘M’ was electrocuted and rushed to the General Hospital Kashere, Akko LGA, Gombe State, but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“Consequently, the DPO Alkaleri led a team of detectives to the scene where three water pump generators were seen evacuating water from the pit to enable rescue of remaining victims.
“Subsequently, on 28/09/2026 at about 1120hrs, Inspr. Salisu Isah attached to Gwana Outstation, Alkaleri Division reported that at about 0620hrs of same date, the remaining eight victims were removed from the pit,” he said.

He gave the identities of the deceased as follows: Hamidu Ali, male (40), of Nasarawa State; Saidu Abubakar, male (29), of Nasarawa State; Olije Abdulrazak, male (25), of Kogi State; Musa Abdullahi, male (29), of Bauchi State; Abdulrahman Mu’azu, (23), of Bauchi State; Jafar Abbas, male (24), of Bauchi State; Jose Ukese, male (28), of Nasarawa State and Haruna Alkali, male (30), of Kebbi State.
Habib said that after post-mortem examination, the corpses were released to their relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic and Christian rites, while investigation is ongoing.
