Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha says issues around the Nigerian security situation should go beyond prescriptions as the issues are complex and intricate.

Mr Mustapha stated this on Thursday at the golden jubilee lecture series on “Security and Economic Growth: Leadership in Challenging Times”.

The event was the occasion of the public presentation of the book titled “Strategic Turnaround Story of a Government Agency”. Mr Mustapha noted that the current security situation calls for collective responsibility as well as deliberate collective action by both government and the citizenry.

“You would all agree that our current security situation calls for collective responsibility as well as deliberate collective action by both government and the citizenry in search for solutions to the challenges of security and economic development,” he said.

“While the government has risen to the task of tackling the challenges, it still needs the partnership and support of the citizens to do so effectively, in order for us to have the desired enabling environment for prosperity and progress.

“Responding to these challenges is not just a matter of building consensus regarding what should be done, but also educating ourselves about relevant ideas and history, and carefully calculating costs and benefits for different courses of action.

“The issues of security and economic development should go beyond prescriptions to presenting innovative, practical and implementable solutions from a multi-disciplinary perspective as the issues are complex and intricate.”
