Nigerian Students Threaten Nationwide Protest against First Lady Aisha Buhari over Student’s Detention

“We have consulted and consolidated and neither yielded desirable results in seeking the freedom of Muhammed.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to embark on an indefinite nationwide protest against the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, until Mr. Aminu Adamu Muhammed, who is a student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, is unconditionally released from detention.
The threat to embark on indefinite protest from Monday, December 5, 2022, was contained in a letter dated December 1, 2022, which was addressed to, “Greatest Nigerian Students,” by the National President of NANS, Mr. Usman Umar Barambu.
Barambu said: “Sequel to the exhaustion of all options available to us before confrontation in seeking the freedom of one of us who was arrested in questionable manner, tortured, molested, harassed and detained by agents of government, you are hereby notified of the decision of the leadership the NANS to proceed on nationwide protest.
“We have consulted and consolidated and neither yielded desirable results in seeking the freedom of Muhammed, student of Federal University Dutse.”
The letter further urged students to, “please note that our demonstration shall continue until he is released unconditionally.
“The protest is against the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the Wife of the President, Aisha Muhammed Buhari.”
Barambu called on the students to, “please note that injury to one is injury to all.”
He added: “Be assured of the commitment of the leadership of the NANS under my watch to the protection and ensuring the rights and welfare of all Nigerian students.”
The letter ended with a clarion call “Aluta Continua! Victory Ascerta!”
