President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has said he is contesting for a place in the FIFA Council where he believes Nigeria should be consistently represented.

The council is the world’s highest decision making body in football and Pinnick says with the kind of pedigree Nigeria boasts of, the country should be part of the council.

“We can’t account for 16% of the Africa’s population and you have seven seats from Africa and there will be no Nigerian, to me it’s unthinkable,” the NFF boss said when he appeared on ARISE News.

According to the NFF boss, “we (Nigeria) have the richest resume in terms of female football, we have the richest resume in terms of age grade football in the world and if you look at what we have achieved in football there are very few countries in the continent that have done same, we have won the Olympics, we have won practically everything apart from the main World Cup.

“The truth is that we must be among decision makers in football and that will trickle down to every small nation in the continent, because if our voices are raised very objectively in the FIFA Council, the whole of Africa’s voice will be loud and clearly heard.”
