The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15th July 2025, as a public holiday in honour of Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died on Sunday in London.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Interior, the holiday is part of the ongoing seven-day national mourning period earlier announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government following presidential approval.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the Minister stated.
He further urged Nigerians to use the day to honour the former president’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion in line with Buhari’s vision for a united and prosperous country.
The Ministry confirmed that national flags will continue to fly at half-mast from Sunday, 13th July through the seven-day mourning period.
