More than 160 people have died after devastating flash floods near Nepal’s border with China, while nearly 1,500 people remain unaccounted for, according to authorities.
At least 700 foreign tourists are among those reported missing after floods and landslides struck the region bordering Tibet.
Rescue teams are continuing their search for survivors as the scale of the disaster becomes clearer.
Helicopters are being used to reach affected areas, with rescuers also dropping tents, food and other emergency supplies to people cut off by the flooding.
The disaster has caused widespread destruction, sweeping away roads, buildings and other infrastructure and leaving communities struggling to access essential supplies.
The border region has been particularly badly affected, with heavy flooding and landslides making ground searches difficult.
Rescue workers are racing against time to locate those still missing, while emergency teams assess the extent of the damage.
Despite the devastation, there have also been remarkable stories of survival. Some people have survived the floods by clinging to trees or finding other ways to escape the rapidly rising waters.
Authorities are expected to continue search and rescue operations as helicopters and emergency teams work to reach isolated areas and account for those still missing.
