The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 339 suspects and seized 7,746.896 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, tramadol and other psychotropic substances, in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Commander of NDLEA, Mustapha Yahuza, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Lokoja.
Yahuza, an Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, said the command also secured 80 convictions in 2025, with offenders receiving various jail terms.
According to him, the command intensified efforts in Drug Demand Reduction, including drug abuse prevention education and the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
“In the area of Drug Demand Reduction, about 71 campaigns were carried out in motor parks, schools, marketplaces, mosques and churches,” he said.
He added that a total of 238 drug-dependent persons were counselled through brief intervention programmes during the period under review.
Yahuza noted that the command, in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative—a project supported by the wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo—received support in public enlightenment and drug prevention campaigns.
He further disclosed that the NDLEA, working with the Kogi State Government, has constituted a high-powered State Drug Control Committee (SDCC) to ensure effective implementation of drug supply and demand reduction policies across the state.
