NCAA: Domestic Airlines Refunded Over N1bn To 5,285 Passengers Across Nigeria

The NCAA disclosed that more than 5,000 passengers were refunded over N1 billion by domestic airlines in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that domestic airlines refunded over N1.03 billion to 5,285 passengers between April and June 2025.

The disclosure was made via a post on the authority’s official X account on Thursday, stating: “Between the months of April-June (2025), domestic airlines in Nigeria paid refunds to air passengers as follows: Total Number of Passengers refunded – 5,285. Combined total refunds (in naira) – 1,038,505,680.80.”

This development follows the launch of the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Portal in September 2024 by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. The portal was introduced to facilitate ticket refund resolutions within 24 hours.

On December 10, 2024, the NCAA announced plans to sanction airlines that fail to comply with ticket refund timelines.

Michael Achimugu, the authority’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, reaffirmed that timely ticket refunds remain central to the NCAA’s consumer protection agenda.

Two weeks later, on December 24, the NCAA sanctioned Air Peace, Ethiopian Airlines, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, and Royal Air Maroc for breaching Part 19 of its 2023 Regulations. Offences included delayed refunds, failure to comply with regulatory directives, and passenger complaints relating to missing or mishandled luggage, short-landed baggage, and flight disruptions.

Seven months after that announcement, the NCAA identified Max Air as the most unresponsive domestic airline to passenger complaints.
