Stella Okafor, widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed for financial assistance, revealing that her family is struggling to survive more than a year after the comedian’s death.
Speaking during an interview with social media influencer King Mitchy at her Lagos residence, Stella said the family’s electricity had been disconnected for two months, while financial difficulties had forced their children out of school over unpaid fees.
“They have even cut my light for two months now. Every night, we go looking for a place to charge our phones. It is not easy.”
She also confirmed reports that the family had resorted to fetching water from a well because they no longer have access to running water in their apartment.

Stella said the family’s financial situation had become so severe that she received another notification from her children’s school demanding payment of outstanding fees.
“I can show that the school sent a message today.”
In an emotional appeal, she publicly shared her bank account details, asking Nigerians and well-wishers to support her family through the difficult period.
Her eldest daughter also spoke during the interview, thanking her mother for doing everything possible to keep the family together despite their challenges, including efforts to pay school fees. She further appealed to Mr Ibu’s colleagues in the entertainment industry to reach out and support the family.
John Okafor died from cardiac arrest on March 2, 2024, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after battling a prolonged illness. He was 62.
The veteran comic actor, who became one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces through his portrayal of the humorous “Mr Ibu” character, was buried in his hometown of Amurri in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
