Military Pensions Board Honours Veteran Soldier In Nasarawa

Military Pensions Board chairman honoured veteran Michael Etuwe in Nasarawa, recognising his service and sacrifices to Nigeria’s unity and stability.

The Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem, has paid a courtesy visit to Master Warrant Officer Michael Etuwe, a distinguished Nigerian military veteran, in Nasarawa State.

According to a statement by the MPB’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, the visit was to honour exemplary service and recognise the enduring sacrifices of veterans who contributed to Nigeria’s defence, unity and stability.

Master Warrant Officer Etuwe is a former orderly to Nigeria’s late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, and served closely with him during a critical period in the nation’s history.

He was reportedly on official duty and in the same vehicle with General Muhammed on February 13, 1976, when the Head of State was assassinated in Lagos, making him one of the few living witnesses to the historic incident.

The visit drew representatives of various veterans’ associations and members of the Ministerial Committee on Veterans’ Welfare, who commended the MPB Chairman for his commitment to veterans’ wellbeing.

Speaking during the visit, Etuwe expressed gratitude for the honour, describing it as rare and deeply meaningful, and thanked the Board for recognising his years of service.

In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Abdulraheem reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to promoting the welfare, dignity and continued engagement of retired military personnel.

He emphasised that the sacrifices of veterans remain fundamental to Nigeria’s peace, security and national development.
