The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false a report alleging an attack on Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral, describing the claim as misleading and unfounded.
The report, which circulated on Facebook, alleged an armed attack on the residence of the Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese and the cathedral.
In a statement, the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma debunked the claim, insisting that no such incident occurred in Sokoto State.
The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, stated that the safety and security of Bishop Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral remain intact.
He noted that the cleric is currently carrying out his Easter duties without any disruption.
The Division further assured that, in collaboration with other security agencies, it remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents in Sokoto State and across its area of responsibility.
It added that robust measures have been put in place to guarantee a peaceful and secure Easter celebration.
