The All Progressives Congress has expressed confidence in its preparations for the 2026 National Convention, assuring members and stakeholders of a smooth and well-coordinated event.

Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Saturday, on behalf of the party’s media and publicity committee, Assistant Secretary Mary Ikoku said extensive planning structures have been put in place to ensure the success of the convention.

“For instance, you have all of the committees and subcommittees that have been set up and they’ve been meeting,” she said, noting that most of the committees have already held their inaugural sessions. According to her, ongoing activities across these groups reflect a coordinated effort to deliver what she described as a “hitch-free convention.”

Ikoku highlighted the active involvement of state governors, describing their contributions as both strategic and supportive. She said governors have taken steps to ensure that delegates travelling from outside their states are adequately catered for, demonstrating a high level of commitment to the party’s success.

A key feature of the planning process, she explained, is the establishment of liaison committees tasked with coordinating overlapping responsibilities across different teams. These liaison units, she said, help to resolve cross-cutting issues and maintain balance, thereby minimising the likelihood of disruptions during the convention.

Providing insight into the event structure, Ikoku noted that the first day of the convention will focus on accreditation, with the relevant committee overseeing the verification of delegates and stakeholders from across the country. Other committees, including accommodation and venue management, have also been fully mobilised to handle logistics such as housing for delegates and readiness of the convention site.

She further emphasised improvements in coordination, pointing to a fully functional central working committee and dedicated secretariats for various teams. Regular monitoring and daily checklist reviews, she added, are being conducted to ensure that all aspects of the planning remain on track.

Ikoku also noted, “One other thing that we have going for us in this year’s convention is that we have a central theme and we have a brand identity that is being captured across the various committees. So there is uniformity. And then as we push the message of unity, stability and progress for our party, you’re also seeing that being worked within the confines of the committees, the various committees of this convention.”

While acknowledging that no large-scale event can be entirely without challenges, she expressed optimism about the level of preparedness. “Would it be 100% hitch-free? I envisage that nothing is ever perfect. However, we’re doing our best as a party to ensure that we have very minimal, if at all there will be any.”

Reaffirming the party’s position, Ikoku concluded: Things have been put in place to ensure we have a hitch-free National Convention 2026.”
