Macron Backs Two-State Solution, Plans Gaza Peace Conference with Saudi Arabia

Macron has reaffirmed support for a two-state solution and announced a Gaza peace conference with Saudi Arabia in New York.

French President Emmanuel Macron has reiterated his commitment to a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestinian conflict, dismissing accusations of double standards in France’s Middle East policy.

Speaking during a visit to Indonesia on Wednesday, Macron said only a political resolution could deliver lasting peace in the region.

“Only a political solution will make it possible to restore peace and build for the long term,” he said.

Diplomats and regional experts believe Macron is edging closer to formally recognising a Palestinian state — a move likely to spark strong opposition from Israel and expose deeper divisions among Western allies.

The French president revealed plans for a joint initiative with Saudi Arabia to revive international momentum for peace talks.

“Together with Saudi Arabia, we will soon be organising a conference on Gaza in New York to give fresh impetus to the recognition of a Palestinian state and the recognition of the State of Israel and its right to live in peace and security in this region,” Macron said.

France has maintained that its approach to the Middle East is guided by the principles of peace, security, and international law, amid growing pressure for Western nations to adopt clearer stances as the war in Gaza continues.
