Robert Lewandowski has announced he will leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season when his contract expires, bringing an end to a successful four-year spell in Spain.
The 37-year-old striker confirmed his decision Saturday in an emotional Instagram post ahead of Barça’s final home game of the campaign against Real Betis at Spotify Camp Nou.
“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on,” Lewandowski wrote. “I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete.”
Sources told ESPN earlier this year that Barcelona were open to extending the veteran forward’s contract on reduced terms, but Lewandowski opted against continuing beyond this season.
The Poland international has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, Saudi Arabia and the United States, with Chicago Fire FC among the teams linked with a move.
Lewandowski scored 18 goals this season as Barcelona won LaLiga and the Spanish Supercopa, despite sharing striking duties with Ferran Torres.
Since joining Barça from FC Bayern Munich in 2022 for €45 million, Lewandowski has scored 119 goals in 191 appearances.
During his time in Catalonia, he helped Barcelona win three LaLiga titles, three Supercopas and one Copa del Rey.
