The spokesperson for the 2023 NNPP vice-presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ladipo Johnson, has downplayed the leadership dispute within the OK Movement, describing it as a temporary distraction that will not undermine the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general election.
Speaking in an interview with ARISE News on Wednesday, Johnson said the disagreement stemmed from internal issues within the support group and did not reflect divisions among the coalition’s principal figures.
“Yes, we have, well, may I call it a distraction at the moment.”
Johnson explained that the OK Movement was established to mobilise support for the joint presidential ticket and insisted that the current dispute arose from disagreements between some members and the group’s leadership.
“It is not such, in my own humble opinion, that would lead you to take unilateral actions that could possibly scuttle or bring bad blood within the support base of the person you purportedly want to become the president of the country.”
He disclosed that the coalition’s presidential candidate was already aware of the situation and was dissatisfied with the unfolding events.
“I saw the presidential candidate last night along with the DG. He’s not happy about the whole situation.”
Johnson expressed confidence that the disagreement would soon be resolved, urging members to remain focused on supporting the party’s candidates rather than engaging in internal conflicts.
“Any minor issues will be sorted out. We’re still strong and we’re focused, especially on both the presidential and vice presidential candidates.”
He maintained that the coalition remained united ahead of the official commencement of campaigns and dismissed suggestions that the disagreement could weaken its electoral prospects.
“We’re still united in that purpose.”
On claims that external political interests might be fuelling the crisis, Johnson said he had seen no evidence of outside interference but acknowledged that unresolved internal disagreements could create opportunities for political opponents.
“At the moment, I won’t say that I have seen an external influence per say.”
Johnson concluded by urging members of the various support groups within the coalition to work together in pursuit of a common objective.
“You can have as many support groups as possible. It’s all good so long as they’re all working in the same direction.”
