A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Ladan Salifu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, accusing him of prioritising the 2027 elections over the welfare of Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview with ARISE News on Monday, Salifu described President Tinubu’s latest foreign trip as ill-timed, arguing that the administration should be focused on addressing the country’s worsening economic and security challenges.
He said the government had failed to deliver the “renewed hope” promised to Nigerians, citing rising hunger, poverty, starvation and insecurity.
Salifu also criticised the explanation that the President travelled abroad to recharge after months of intense engagement on security and the economy.
“What Sunday Dare should advise his principal to do is not to go abroad and recharge, but to go abroad and sober up and resign.”
He stated that the timing of the trip was particularly concerning given the latest increase in petrol prices, with the pump price rising from about ₦1,200 to ₦1,310 per litre in some locations and reaching higher levels in other states.
According to Salifu, the President’s decision to leave the country at a time of worsening hardship suggests that the administration is placing political considerations ahead of the immediate needs of Nigerians.
“He is prioritizing power and retaining power over and above the welfare and well-being of Nigerians.”
