Kwara Court Remands 83-Year-Old APC Chieftain, Two Others Over Alleged Defamation

High Court orders remand of 83-year-old APC chieftain, two others over alleged defamatory remarks against Governor AbdulRazaq’s elder brother.

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has remanded an 83-year-old All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Hon. Illiasu Ibrahim, alongside Mallam Shola Muse and Adesemowo “Ade Gogo” Suleiman over alleged defamatory comments against Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq, elder brother of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The presiding judge, Justice E.B. Mohammed, ordered that the three defendants be held at the Oke-Kura Correctional Facility after their arraignment on a three-count criminal charge filed by the Kwara State Government.

The defendants are accused of making derogatory and allegedly false statements against Dr. AbdulRazaq, who holds the traditional title of Mutawali of Ilorin, during a programme aired on SBS 96.9 FM.

According to the charge sheet dated December 17, 2025, and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ayoola Idowu Akande, the statements allegedly made by the defendants were capable of inciting members of the public against Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Following the proceedings, Justice Mohammed ordered that the trio be remanded in custody.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to April 25, 2026, for further hearing.
