The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has thrown the governorship ticket of the party open for any qualified aspirants across the three senatorial districts in the 2027 election.
The state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Adamu Issa Bawa, stated this in Ilorin while featuring on the personality programme on a radio station.
Bawa, who hails from Kaiama town in the Kwara north senatorial district of the state, emphasised that, the party was not zoning the governorship ticket to a particular senatorial district of the state ahead of the poll.
His remarks came in response to questions on whether the PDP would adopt zoning or power rotation for the 2027 governorship election in the face of growing agitations from stakeholders.
The position was seen as a significant blow to demands by some groups from Kwara North advocating rotational power in favour of the district as part of equity considerations ahead of the 2027 polls.
Bawa, however, said, “The PDP policy is to allow a free and open contest based on competence and capacity rather than geographical considerations.
“Let me just take that matter in the PDP, our policy is that, we are leaving our ticket of our party open to the three senatorial districts.
“Anybody that has the capacity, that knows that he has what it takes to govern this state, is free to come out and campaign.”
He assured the people that the party would provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
