Former Kano State Governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has described President Bola Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy as a mistake that has left Nigeria in what he called a “total mess, economically.”
Kwankwaso made the remarks in an exclusive interview with ARISE Correspondent Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie.
He said the removal of fuel subsidy remains one of the most consequential decisions of the Tinubu administration and that its fallout is still shaping the political debate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso said President Tinubu’s decision to scrap the subsidy on day one was a mistake.
He said an NDC government would bring back the subsidy, but “in our own way”, in an apparent break with his running mate, Peter Obi.
Kwankwaso also said the NDC would do “whatever it takes” to bring down the price of fuel.
On former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Kwankwaso said Atiku would sell Nigeria’s my refineries to his friends.
