Former Kano State Governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said Nigerian governors are not as powerful as they were in 1999.
Kwankwaso made the remarks in an exclusive interview with ARISE Correspondent Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie for her Untold Stories Project.
He said, “Governors are not in charge,” arguing that the powers wielded by governors today are less than those available to state governors in 1999.
Kwankwaso said many governors enter Government House believing they have “defeated everybody” and subsequently stop listening to advice.
He also commented on the fallout between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Kwankwaso described the dispute as “unfortunate and unnecessary” and accused Governor Alia of acting out of desperation.
