US President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has resigned following allegations of improper conduct before and during her tenure in Athens.
Guilfoyle announced her resignation on Tuesday, insisting that she would “vigorously defend” herself against the allegations, which she described as false.
The Trump administration had asked her to leave her diplomatic post as she faced accusations of improper and potentially illegal conduct.
However, Guilfoyle rejected the allegations, maintaining her position that the claims against her were untrue.
Her resignation comes as the Trump administration faces other significant political and legal developments.
On Tuesday, Trump planned to travel to Alaska to support a Republican incumbent senator ahead of the crucial midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
The trip comes as Republicans face concerns about retaining control of Congress after the elections, with Trump devoting significant time to campaigning for party candidates.
Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments in a watchdog’s lawsuit seeking public records relating to billionaire Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
