The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned from his position following allegations linking him to the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Kano Government House, Sanusi DawakinTofa, the commissioner said his decision was driven by a commitment to public interest and the sensitivity of the allegations.
“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be,” Namadi stated.
“While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” he added.
Namadi expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his loyalty to the administration’s principles.
“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state,” he said. “I remain loyal to the ideals that brought this administration into office.”
The governor, in a separate statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, acknowledged receipt of the resignation and accepted it, wishing the former commissioner success in his future endeavours.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has graciously accepted the resignation and wished the former commissioner success in his future endeavour,” the statement read.
The governor also reiterated his administration’s “unwavering stance on justice, discipline, and the fight against drug-related crimes and social vices affecting the youth and the broader society.”
He further cautioned all political appointees to act with prudence when handling sensitive matters, advising that they seek approval from higher authorities before engaging in issues of public concern.
