Kano Plans Modern, Tourist-Friendly City While Safeguarding Ancient Landmarks

Kano plans new master plan to blend modern development with preservation of historic sites, including ancient city walls and landmarks.

The Kano State Government has concluded arrangements to develop a comprehensive master plan that aligns with modern development standards, while preserving its cultural and historical sites for future generations.

The state Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabar Umar, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ Workshop on the review of the Kano state metropolitan master plan held on Tuesday. 

He said the State government would prioritise the preservation of its historical sites, including the ancient city walls that have stood the test of time.

According to him, the current review must consider the sanctity and preservation of these landmarks, which are not only a testament to glorious past but also a source of pride for the people of the state. 

He maintained that the new master plan will incorporate modern elements, ensuring the state remained a hub for commerce, innovation, and culture.

The Commissioner urged all stakeholders to actively participate in this review process, sharing expertise and insights to create a master plan that truly reflects collective vision for the state. 

In her speech, the Managing Director of 

kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, Hauwa Hassan said the program will promote sustainable development and balancing growth with environmental protection.

“This workshop is aim to transform Kano into a modern, organized, technology-driven, commercially vibrant, 

friendly, and a tourist-attractive city, with the objectives of infrastructure development through Provision of modern amenities”
