Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has emerged as the Blueprint Newspaper’s Governor of the Year 2025, receiving the prestigious accolade during the publication’s Annual Public Lecture and Impact Series held at the Ladi Kwali Hall in Abuja.
The award, announced in a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam, recognised Yusuf’s exceptional commitment to transforming the education sector in Kano State.
Represented at the ceremony by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Technical Adviser on Education Reform Dr Haladu Mohammed, and Director General of KANO-ITDA Dr Bashir Abdu Muzakkari, the governor’s delegation received the award on his behalf.
Blueprint’s editorial board highlighted that Kano State led all 36 states in education budgetary allocation in 2025, an achievement that underpins Governor Yusuf’s broader education reform agenda. These include renovating dilapidated school structures, sponsoring thousands of Kano indigenes for local and international scholarships, and hiring qualified teachers to bolster public school education.
The event also honoured other public figures including the National Security Adviser, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, recognising their roles in national development and leadership excellence.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Yusuf, Bature dedicated the award to the people of Kano State and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transformative governance anchored in education.
“This recognition is a testimony that our efforts are being seen and appreciated. It is also a reminder that we must continue to serve with sincerity, transparency, and a strong sense of purpose,” Yusuf said.
