Kano Government Unveils Climate Action Plan, Integrates Climate Literacy in Schools

Kano State government has revealed intentions to implement climate action plans, integrat climate literacy in school curriculums to combat climate change

Kano State government has unveiled action plans on key priority areas including clean energy transition, sustainable land use, green transport, climate finance, and community resilience.

Speaking at the stakeholders’ workshop organised by the National Council on Climate Change Secretariat on Tuesday in Kano, Yusuf said his administration is committed to combating climate change in the state.

The state Commissioner of Environment Dr. Dahiru Muhammed who represented the governor said the document will guide government, private sector actors, and development partners in delivering impactful climate solutions across the state.

He said in a bid to combat climate change, the State government has concluded arrangements to implement a climate action plan and integrate climate literacy into the school curriculum.

“The policy we are launching today is complemented by a State Climate Change Action Plan that translates our political commitment into a practical and coordinated implementation pathway.”

“It focuses on key priority areas including clean energy transition, sustainable land use, green transport, climate finance, and community resilience” the Governor stated.

In his remarks, the presidential envoy on climate change Dr. Nkiruka Madueke said the program offered an opportunity to delve deeper into discussions and refine strategy for the Just Transition Guideline development.

“Our aim is to ensure this guideline truly embodies the varied perspectives and lived experiences of all stakeholders, including government bodies, the private sector, labour unions, civil society organisations, development partners, and local communities” he said.
