Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has finalized plans to launch an independent Hisbah initiative across all 44 local government areas in the state, aiming to support the efforts of existing security agencies.
The Chairman of the Independent Committee, Sheikh Haroon Sani Ibn Seena, explained that forms had already been distributed to 12,000 persons who were screened across the 44 local government areas for the initiative.
The committee Chairman “added that this Independent Hisbah has been operating since the tenure of the former Kano Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, when he did not implement the full scope of Islamic Shari’a law at that time.”
“The Independent Hisba Fisabilillah will work in collaboration with security agencies and will not tolerate any activities that contravene the law or go against the teachings of the Almighty God.”
The committee explained that the Nigerian Constitution allows for anyone found to be acting improperly to be handed over to the appropriate authority.
The Committee also warned those affiliated with Hisba Kwankwassiya to disengage and opt for the Hisba Fisabilillah initiative instead, with forms available at no cost and distributed free of charge.
It may be recalled that the Kano State Government had threatened to arrest Ganduje over his alleged plans to launch a private security force. However, the committee overseeing the initiative has denied this, clarifying that it is an Independent Hisba Fisabilillah, distinct from a state-backed security outfit.
