A political analyst, Kamilu Fagge, has said the enduring political relevance of Rabiu Kwankwaso is largely driven by the unwavering loyalty of his supporters.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Fagge described Kwankwaso’s followers as “die-hard,” noting that their commitment has remained intact even during periods when he was out of office.
He explained that Kwankwaso’s ability to maintain his support base over the years enabled his political comeback and continued influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to Fagge, the loyalty of his followers is largely ideological, giving him the confidence to pursue political ambitions and navigate shifting alliances.
He noted, however, that the strength of this base is largely concentrated in Kano and surrounding states, limiting its national reach.
Fagge said this regional concentration may pose a challenge for Kwankwaso in building a broad national coalition capable of securing victory in future elections.
He suggested that expanding influence beyond his stronghold would likely require strategic alliances with other prominent political figures.
Despite growing activity within opposition platforms, Fagge emphasised that unity among key players would be critical for any meaningful success in the 2027 elections.
He concluded that Kwankwaso’s political future will depend not only on the strength of his loyal base but also on his ability to broaden his appeal across Nigeria.
