The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects and recovered two motor vehicles, six cows, a motorcycle, a sheep, a mobile phone, 3,100 fake United States dollars, vandalised electric cables and N1.1 million in separate operations across the state.
The command said the operations were conducted in Taura, Malam Madori, Hadejia, Birniwa, Kirikasamma and Kaugama Local Government Areas following credible intelligence, reports from members of the public and routine patrols.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the operations were conducted by police operatives in collaboration with vigilante members.
The suspects arrested were identified as Muntari Ibrahim, 25, of Gidan Naruwa Settlement, Taura LGA; Bura Manu, 35; Basiru Abubakar, 27, of Gashua, Bade LGA, Yobe State; Hussaini Umar, 24, of Potiskum LGA, Yobe State; Ismail Abdullahi, alias Audun Balliya, 41, of Buraburun, Nguru LGA, Yobe State; Sadik Mahmud, 19, of Kaugama Township; Buhari Yusuf, alias Manjo, of Kaugama LGA; Usman Ahmad, 35, of Hadejia; Muhammed Abdu, 40; and Muhammad Buba, 35, of Zagari village.
The command said Hussaini Umar allegedly defrauded an individual of N2.661 million under the pretext of supplying United States dollars.
He was also accused of sending a fake credit alert of N23.57 million to the victim’s account.
The police said investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other fleeing members of the various criminal groups.
It added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, Mr Tijjani Murtala, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-led policing, routine patrols and coordinated operations to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
The commissioner also urged residents to continue providing the police with timely and credible information to support efforts to combat crime.
