An Israeli strike killed at least two Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday, according to Gaza health officials, as tensions continue to surround the territory’s ceasefire.
The Israeli military said the strike targeted a militant in the area but did not provide further details.
Israel has accused Hamas of rearming and carrying out attacks in violation of the ceasefire, saying it has stepped up strikes against the group in recent weeks.
Hamas has denied attempting to launch attacks or rebuild its arsenal, instead accusing Israel of undermining the Gaza peace agreement.
The US-brokered ceasefire reached last year included plans for the eventual reconstruction of Gaza. However, little progress has been made towards implementing a broader agreement aimed at ending the conflict.
The proposed deal includes provisions for Hamas to disarm and for Israel to withdraw its troops from the territory.
Gaza health officials say at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began last October.
Israel, meanwhile, says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza over the same period.
