Israel To Withdraw From UN Human Rights Council Over Alleged Bias

Israel is withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council, citing persistent bias against the country since the council’s inception in 2006.

Israel has announced its decision to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), following the lead of the United States, citing persistent bias against the country.

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirmed the move on Thursday in a letter addressed to UNHRC President Jorg Lauber, which he also shared on social media platform X.

Saar stated that Israel’s decision was based on the council’s “ongoing and unrelenting institutional bias” against the country, which he claimed has been evident since the UNHRC’s establishment in 2006. The decision aligns Israel with the US, which has previously accused the council of disproportionately targeting Israel while failing to address human rights violations elsewhere.

“The decision was reached in light of the ongoing and unrelenting institutional bias against Israel in the Human Rights Council, which has been persistent since its inception in 2006,” Saar said.
