Israel Launches Pre-Emptive Strike On Iran As Explosions Rock Tehran

Israel strikes Iran in pre-emptive attack, as explosions hit Tehran and emergency declared nationwide.

Israel says it has launched a “pre-emptive strike” against Iran, with explosions reported across the Iranian capital, Tehran, escalating tensions between the two regional rivals.Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announces the operation, describing it as an effort to “remove threats against the State of Israel.” He also declares a “special and permanent state of emergency” across Israel in anticipation of retaliatory missile strikes.Sirens sound across Israel at about 08:15 local time, warning residents of the threat of incoming attacks. In Iran, state media report multiple explosions in the north, east and central parts of Tehran.

The state-affiliated Fars News Agency says several blasts are heard in different districts, including the Republic area of the capital. Images received by international media show smoke rising over parts of the city. The strikes come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear programme and preventing a broader conflict.

Negotiations are expected to continue next week, despite mounting tensions.US President Donald Trump had previously threatened military action to pressure Iran into accepting a deal, though he recently says he is not “thrilled” with the pace of discussions.

The United States has also expanded its military presence in the Middle East in recent months.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly warned of what he describes as the growing threat posed by Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities, voicing opposition to any agreement limited solely to Tehran’s nuclear activities.Iran has rejected calls to curb its missile programme or end support for regional allies, including Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, militias in Iraq and the Houthis in Yemen, insisting such demands violate its sovereignty.

The latest escalation follows last year’s brief but intense confrontation between the two countries, during which Israel targeted Iranian positions and the United States later joined strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.Iran has previously vowed to respond forcefully to any direct attack on its territory.

Further details on casualties or damage from the latest strikes are yet to be confirmed.
